BISHOP, INYO COUNTY — October 22, 2026. A change is planned for a key local intersection: Caltrans says crews will begin construction on a temporary modular roundabout where U.S. Route 6 meets Wye Road in Bishop during the week of October 26–30.
One-way traffic control and evening activity
The new District 9 traffic notice identifies one-way traffic control with a flagger and says crews will also work at night. The listed daytime shift is Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Drivers may experience brief delays, but the bulletin does not provide exact overnight work hours or a full-intersection closure.
A temporary roundabout can affect how unfamiliar drivers approach an intersection. Motorists should follow any flaggers, temporary lane markings and signs rather than assume the usual traffic pattern remains unchanged. The source describes the start of construction, not a completed roundabout already open for regular circulation.
How this differs from other Bishop roadworks
Bishop also has ongoing U.S. 395 and SR-168 West pavement work. Caltrans separately lists a 25-mph temporary limit between Jay Street and Wye Road, subject to posted work-zone controls, with intermittent day and overnight closures. That is not the same as the U.S. 6 intersection project.
Road users traveling to local businesses or connecting between U.S. 395 and U.S. 6 should factor in several simultaneous works rather than expecting one single closure. Residents near the construction zone may hear night work, but the agency has not published a precise overnight schedule in this advisory.
What remains to be confirmed
The agency has not provided this report with a permanent opening date for the temporary roundabout. The schedule is subject to change, so check the live map on the day of travel. Report observed incorrect signs or unsafe work-zone conditions to Caltrans, not to a private social media account as the sole source.
Official source and conditions
This report is based on the Caltrans District 9 weekly traffic advisory published October 22, 2026, for work planned October 26–30. A listed construction schedule is not proof that a road is presently closed. Caltrans warns work may change because of weather, incidents or equipment. For travel immediately before departure, consult Caltrans QuickMap and posted work-zone signs. Motorists should slow down and move over for crews where safe.
